Risk Assessment

  • Evaluate environmental threats such as earthquakes, floods, faults and tornado zones.
  • Determine site selection and location.
  • Identify and determine external security and perimeter protection.
  • Evaluate existing internal password/encryption protection
  • Evaluate physical security.
  • Look at floor plan/data center layout.
  • Evaluate internal security/ID protection.
  • Look at personnel screening/background checks.

Audit and Compliance Preparation

  • Health check-up on BCP/DR/COOP/ITSCM processes.
  • Compliance with FCD 1 & 2, NIST 800-84, ISO 27001, ISO 27002, HIPAA, and PCI DSS.
  • Ensure adequate and effective contingency plans have been established to support the prompt recovery.
  • Ensure all mandated disaster recovery, business continuity, and security requirements have adequate compliance policies and procedures in place.
  • Ensure the optimum contingency arrangements are selected and cost effectively provided.
  • Ensure plans are maintained, up-to-date, and securely stored.
  • Ensure the recovery plan is periodically tested for its relevance and effectiveness.

Test, Training and Exercise (TT&E)

  • Scenario selection or scenarios that could affect a department, location or facility
  • Identify key elements of the BCP plan to be tested.
  • Coordinate test of alternate facilities including hotsites.
  • Organize a walkthrough exercise and help identify the various responsibilities of each team leader.
  • Based on MBR experience, identification of strengths and weaknesses of the plan
  • Document the process as well as a timeline of the events.
  • Create a report on findings and evaluation
  • Create a report for senior management
  • Determine if criteria is met including identified RTO

Strategy Assessment

  • Report based on the current Business Impact Analysis.
  • Develop RTO/RPO report by application/data criticality.
  • Disaster recovery strategy cost/benefit analysis.
  • Make disaster recovery strategy recommendation
  • Make disaster recovery site recommendation.
